116. Peter BONNETT4 was born in 1766 in Cedar Creek Swamp, Frederick County, Virginia, USA. He served in the military Revolutionary War Indian Spy in March 1771–1792 at Wilderess in Ohio, USA. Drafted March 1780 -18 months in defence of the "Western waters" a term referring to the Ohio River and its tributaries. THey marched from their home community under the command of Capt. Jonathan Coburn and desceneded the Monongahela River to Pittsburgh. During that summer and fall, the company served as Indian spies in the region west of the Monongahela in what is now Ohio and part of West Virginia. During the winter they used their hunting skill to help supply meat for the troups. In the spring of 1871, Captain Coburn's group was left at Neal's Station, now Parkersburg, to defend that point and to scout the Ohio River. When their draft term expired they were discharged but asked to volunteer for an additional year of duty which most of them, including the Bonnet brothers did. In October, 1782, they were discharged for the second time, but were again ordered out as Indian Spies and continued serving in this capacity until 1794, the year prior to the peace treaty with the Indians. He died in 1836 at the age of 70 in Southern Illinois, USA. Peter Bonnett was the son of Samuel and Mary Elizabeth Lorentz Bonnett. In 1806 he married Margaret Polly Linger. They were the parents of eleven children. It is said that after the death of his wife he, along with other relatives, loaded up a wagon and left for Iowa territory. Peter died on the trail in southern Illinois and is buried there. He was in the Virginia Militia during the Revolutionary War. Lewis and Peter Bonnett were listed on 1835 Lewis County, Virginia Spy Pension List. Margaret Peggy (Polly) LINGER and Peter BONNETT were married on 4 March 1806 in Harrison County, Virginia, USA. 117. Margaret Peggy (Polly) LINGER4 was born in 1786 in Hampshire County, Virginia, BCA. She appeared in the census in 1820 in Lewis County, Virginia, USA. She was buried in 1835 in Vandalia Cemetery, Lewis County, West Virginia, USA. Margaret died in August 1835 at the age of 49 in Lewis County, Virginia, USA. Children were: |
