He was scalped by an English officer who tried to cut his head off, the sword glanced off of a tree limb (or his hand) and removed part of his scalp. The data which follows are obtained from the papers on file in Pension claim, S.44133, based upon the service of John Denoon or Denune in that war. John Denoon while a resident of Prince George's Co.,MD enlisted in March or April, 1780, served as a musician in Captain Henry Dobson's Company 6" Maryland Regiment and in Captain Edward Spice's(possible meant for Spurrier's) Company under Major Lansdale in the Maryland Troops, was in the battles of Camden, Guilford, Court House, Siege of Ninety-Six and Eutaw Sprints and was discharged in June, 1783; he received a wound in the hand during the above service, time and details not shown. He was allowed pension on his application executed May 2,1818, while a resident of Franklin Co,OH, he was then Fifty-Seven years of age. In 1820, the soldier gave the names of the following children who lived with him: Alexander Bond(13), Mary Anne(11), Lucy Washington (9), Sarah Ann(7), Jane Perry(5), Nancy Brown(3), Willa Harrison and Barbary Calf(?)(2).
