426. Lawrence ROSS was born on 15 May 1722 in Dublin, Scotland. He appeared in the census in 1810 in Jefferson County, Kentucky, USA. He died on 8 August 1818 at the age of 96 in Louisville, Bullitt County, Kentucky, USA. Lawrence has Ancestral File Number LV69-QRG. Lawrence ross came to this country with his father when a boy, and while attending school in Virginia, was shot through the shoulder and taken prisoner by the Indians. He remained with the Indians until he was twenty-three years old, when he was given up by them at the first treaty of Limestone. He and his wife both lived to an advance age, his death occurring in Jefferson county, Kentucky, in 1817, at the age of ninety-eight, and his wife's two years later. Captain Ross' father was a Kentucky planter, and, like his father before him, a large slaveholder. He moved to Lincoln county, Missouri, in 1817, and died in 1823, at the age of sixty-five.

Lawrence served in the Revolutionary War as a ranger on the frontier with the company from Northampton County. In 1782 Lawrence bought his mother's and William's (1.4) share in his father's estate for 100 pounds, Virginia currency. By 1784 Lawrence had sold it and traveled down the Ohio River to Kentucky by flatboat with his family. He settled on Bear Grass Creek in Jefferson County. This is now part of the city of Louisville. Kentucky was in its early stages of development and could offer only an abundance of Land. Lawrence had become the owner of a large plantation (528 acres ) and 113 slaves by the time of his death in 1817 in Jefferson County. Susannah died in 1819 or 1822. There is no record where they were buried. Lawrence's Will, dated 2 March 1810, left the bulk of his estate to Presley, his youngest child. On 19 August 1818, the other 9 brothers and sisters filed an objection to the Will saying that Susannah and Presley had influenced Lawrence to exclude the others.

At wifes death tract of land on which he lives to Presley, and residue to be divided among his sons Shapley and Presley, and his daughters: Polly, wife of William Peyton; betsy, wife of samuel Philips; Nancy, wife of Jacob Owens and Henry White; Sooky, wife of Matthew... Susannah OLDHAM and Lawrence ROSS were married about 1762.102

427. Susannah OLDHAM was born on 1 January 1746 in Prince William County, Virginia, USA. She died in 1837 at the age of 91 in Bentonsport, Van Buren County, Iowa, USA. She has Ancestral File Number LZJY-26Y. She was a member of a distinguished Virginia family, an d a woman of many estimable qualities. She was a member o f the Primitive Baptist Church.
