424. Captain James C SULLIVAN101 was born in 1748 in King George, Chester Co, Pennsylvania, USA. He appeared in the census in 1790 in Burke, North Carolina, USA. He was buried in 1815 in Fee Fee Cemetery, Bridgeton, St Louis County, Missouri, USA. Revolutionary War officer named Captain James Sullivan (#2 6867157). Elizabeth B. Sullivan (#75416329), and Susan Sul livan (#75416357) are nearby, but no readable markers. James died on 13 June 1815 at the age of 67 in Bridgeton, St Louis County, Missouri, USA. As early as 1769, Capt James Sullivan had settled west of the Monongehela at Pittsbugh, Pennsylvania and served in Dunmore's War in 1774. Upon the formation of the 13th Virginia Regiment in 1776, he was chosen one of its captains. In December of 1777, Col. John Gibson at Fort Pitt sends him personally to George Washington to get clothing for the 13th Virginia Regt and he hopes Washington will supply his needs so as to enable him to return with a supply as soon as possible. He returned from the 13th in 1778 and served at Fort McIntosh until 1779. (See Frontier Defense on the Upper Ohio).

After recieving a land grant "on the Falls of the Ohio" from Patrick Henry, the next year he removed with his brother, Daniel Sullivan, to Jefferson County, Kentucky. They founded two stations, one on the Beargrass. In Clark's campaign of 1780 he acted as Master of Horse. In 1781 he was appointed by George Rogers Clark to supervise the building of boats for the coming Illinois campaign. Sullivan was tireless in his efforts for Clark with whom he was a trusted friend. He served in as Captain under Clark in the campaign against the Indian towns on the Miami River in 1782.

James Sullivan continued to live in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky until 1807. He is described as a large poweful and active man and prominent in the new community. He paid a great many obligations left by his brother, Daniel Sullivan, and acted as foster fathert to his nephew, Daniel Sullivan, Jr. James moved to St. Louis, MIssouri in 1808 with his son, John C. Sullivan, at the bidding of William Clark where he died in 1815 on June 13th. On his grave in Fee Fee Cemetery , near Pattonsville, there is a Revolutionary marker. His gravesite is directly behind the cemetery house.

Captain James Sullivan was born 1748 in Augusta Co, Va. He served in the Revolutionary War in the 13th Virginia Regiment, also known as the West Augusta Regiment. He died in St Louis County, Mo, June 13, 1815.

Paid off obligations left by his brother Daniel after he was killed in 1791. Acted as foster father of his nephew Daniel Sullivan III. In 1802 preparing to move to Missouri made a division of his property between his daughters Lucy & Susanna and his sons John C Sullivan & George Rogers Clark Sullivan. Susannah BUFFINGTON and Captain James C SULLIVAN were married in 1764 in Sullivan's Station, Hampshire County, Kentucky, BCA.

425. Susannah BUFFINGTON was born about 1748 in Hampshire County, Virginia, BCA. She died on 30 July 1798 at the age of 50 in Louisville, Bullitt County, Kentucky, USA.
