Contributed By Paul Pursell ยท 26 December 2014 After recieving a land grant "on the Falls of the Ohio" from Patrick Henry, the next year he removed with his brother, Daniel Sullivan, to Jefferson County, Kentucky. They founded two stations, one on the Beargrass. In Clark's campaign of 1780 he acted as Master of Horse. In 1781 he was appointed by George Rogers Clark to supervise the building of boats for the coming Illinois campaign. Sullivan was tireless in his efforts for Clark with whom he was a trusted friend. He served in as Captain under Clark in the campaign against the Indian towns on the Miami River in 1782. James Sullivan continued to live in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky until 1807. He is described as a large poweful and active man and prominent in the new community. He paid a great many obligations left by his brother, Daniel Sullivan, and acted as foster fathert to his nephew, Daniel Sullivan, Jr. James moved to St. Louis, MIssouri in 1808 with his son, John C. Sullivan, at the bidding of William Clark where he died in 1815 on June 13th. On his grave in Fee Fee Cemetery , near Pattonsville, there is a Revolutionary marker. His gravesite is directly behind the cemetery house. Captain James Sullivan was born 1748 in Augusta Co, Va.
